-Master of Arts in Family and Couples Counseling from the University of Colorado Denver

-Licensed Professional Counselor and Owner of Sagebrush Counseling.

I work with individuals, couples, and families struggling with anxiety, depression, adjustment to life transitions, trauma, addictions, relationship challenges, navigating careers, and more. With a background in music therapy and social work, beginning in 2008, I went on to fulfill a master’s degree in professional counseling from the University of Colorado Denver with a specialization in Couple and Family Therapy. Through mindfulness and acceptance practices, I help clients gain a better understanding of their relationships to life experiences to help create flexibility in moving toward personal growth and development.

I use a contextual and holistic approach to therapy. I want to help you understand why you are the way you are and what has shaped you, but I also know that stopping there won’t wholly serve you. I aim to help clients move past the stuckness and into a place of autonomy and self directed freedom.

“More curiosity, less judgement” is a code that backs my philosophy. More curiosity with the self, others, emotions, and life events.

Welcome!

My name is Cat and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor. I currently provide individual and group therapy, as well as couples therapy. I work with a range of clinical presentations including anxiety, depression, substance use, bipolar disorders, PTSD, obsessive compulsive disorders, and personality disorders, as well as those who have complex trauma histories. I believe in providing a holistic approach that honors the many different intersections each person has, so I'm excited to learn more about you and your needs to be able to tailor your sessions specifically to you.

My approach to therapy includes influences from Attachment Theory, Feminist Theory, and Person-Centered Theory. My passion for therapy lies in making treatment accessible for all populations. I have experience working with clients with identities in the LGBTQIA+ community and individuals with developmental disabilities and persistent mental health.

My hope is to create a trusting and safe therapeutic environment that allows for you to experience unconditional acceptance and empowerment in therapy. I believe change happens by stepping into our full selves and autonomy and I hope to be able to join you in this process. I am excited and honored to have the opportunity to work with you.

Therapy is about more than talking, it's about gaining the skills for making changes you need in order to get you to your goals. I am empathetic but straight forward, finding a balance between a client's thoughts, emotions and behaviors. You might be ready to have your behavior change before internal change can occur. You need to be action action oriented and I will be also. I always push clients for change but do so in a way that is enjoyable for all involved. By the end of each session you will have a sense of progress made toward your ultimate goals.

I don't avoid a challenge; from my time in the Marine Corp, to a career at the Dept. of Corrections or having 3 young children. If you held other therapists at arm's length you might find me refreshingly normal. I have trained in the Gottman Method and Developmental Model of Couples Therapy, Brainspotting for trauma and DBT for handling hard emotions.

Clients tell me they feel I understand where they are coming from and view solutions, changes and goals from their point of view and priorities. We will approach therapy from a light-heater point of view, even with difficult content. We will be collaborative to put you the driver's seat while I give you skills you are seeking to get your solutions.

Steve Schmidt, Practicum Student

Fairplay, Online, (offering free sessions)

My name is Steve and my passion is working with people from all phases of life who may be struggling to make sense of life, just need help working through a rough patch in a relationship, or who have experienced trauma of some kind. I believe in seeing each individual as a whole-being with their own narrative, thoughts, experiences, and all the stuff that makes you uniquely you. I also believe that every person needs help sometimes getting out from under the weight of unhealthy habits and emotions and hurtful narratives. As a therapist I look forward to discovering those places you’re struggling and walking with you toward finding a healthier and empowering path forward.

I particularly love working with couples, first responders, and individuals who are suffering from religious trauma and abuse, childhood adversity, depression, and anxiety. I use a Cognitive Behavioral approach that is person-centered and incorporates mindfulness practices.

My professional background is in religious leadership and I am currently pursuing my Masters in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Grand Canyon University.

(Steve is offering sessions on a sliding scale of $10-$40 per session to make counseling accessible for everyone. If finances are a concern, let us know and we will make something work
